Born in West Grove, PA, she was the daughter of the late William and Stella Scott Swayne.

She was the wife of the late Augustus C. Giffing, who died in February 1982; and was also preceded in death by her son, Allen R. Giffing. She is survived by 3 sons, William D. Giffing of West Chester, PA, and Ronald and John Giffing, both of Merritt Island; and 6 daughters, Betty Carter of Georgetown, PA, Virginia R. Giffing of West Chester, PA, Mildred Reesey of New Castle, DE, Janet Carey of Middletown, DE, Carol Bannon of Ft. Lauderdale, FL and Peggy Ann Berry of State Road, NC. She is also survived by 20 grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren; 8 great-great grandchildren; and 1 sister, Louise Swayne Harris of West Grove, PA.
